This month marks the one-year anniversary of one of the craftiest couples I know: my dear friends Doña Ana and Don Nico! These creative geniuses managed to transform their wedding venue — a rustic Mexican rancho (picture dirt roads, dirt floors, and huge overgrown trees everywhere) — into a charming site for a fairytale fiesta with fun and festive colors, streams of lights, and some creative chalk art, of course. Get ready to spice up your next fiesta-themed shindig with this month’s featured Tres Del Mes. And don’t forget the piñata, it is always a hit!

Colorful Papel Picado, Paper Flowers and Lights
Deck out the venue with colorful streams of papel picado (Mexican paper flags), paper flowers, and outdoor lights! The colors create a festive ambiance while the lights add a touch of elegance and romance once the sun has set.

Piñatas are always a plus at any party. ¡Dale, dale, dale! Outdoor lights set the romantic mood.

Fun and Budget-Friendly Centerpieces
Be creative with the vases you use for floral arrangements and centerpieces. Large ollas (clay pots) work well for larger arrangements and used Mexican food cans are adorable for smaller ones. Mix it up with bright flowers and succulents!

Big wooden coasters add to a rustic theme and create height for your centerpieces. These centerpieces also double as party favors so you can save some cash. Trust me, all of your tías will be trying to sneak these into their purses at the end of the night! Also, sprinkle Chiclets around the table for a pop of color and after-dinner breath fresheners for guests! Cute frames with pictures of the lovely couple also add a personal touch.

Chalk Art (always a hit at any party!)
Chalk art is all the rage these days, so why not incorporate it into a wedding or fiesta? Ana’s creations were used to share memorable quotes, identify food and drink menus, and convey messages to guests, like the wedding hashtag. So enlist your best writer to add the finishing touches to your fiesta! By the way, Nico made these chalk boards out of old windows and Ana was the chalk artist extraordinaire. Aren’t they adorable?
