{TRES DEL MES} Green, White, and Red Recipes to Celebrate Mexican Independence Day
September 16 marks a special day in Mexican history. On this day in 1810 Father Miguel Hidalgo – known as the father of Mexican independence – launched the revolution that led to Spain’s departure from Mexico.
Several years ago I found myself in the small town of Dolores Hidalgo, where the revolution kicked off, for El Grito de Independencia. The national holiday is marked with music and festivities. Of course the celebration wouldn’t be complete without a spread of great food matching the country’s flag colors: verde, blanco, y rojo. Here are a few of my favorite recipes to help you celebrate Mexican Independence Day with sabor. ¡Viva México!
