10-Minute Spiced Piloncillo Syrup

Piloncillo Syrup is a delicious spin on simple syrup made using unrefined Mexican cone sugar known as piloncillo. This version is infused with cinnamon and orange peel and when added to coffee, it tastes like café de olla!

Ingredients
  

  • 8 ounce piloncillo
  • 1 cinnamon stick or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 16 ounces water
  • 1 ribbon of orange peel 5 inches

Instructions
 

  • Bring piloncillo and cinnamon to a boil with 16 ounces of water for 10 minutes, over medium-high heat. Break down any chunks of piloncillo if necessary.
  • Remove from heat, add orange peel, and cover until completely cool.
  • Once cool, strain syrup through a fine mesh sieve and discard cinnamon sticks and orange peel.
  • Refrigerate in an airtight glass jar until ready to use.
  • Serve this delicious syrup over your favorite ice cream, alongside freshly made buñuelos, over French toast or pancakes, or in coffee to infuse cafe de olla flavors!

TO STORE: This piloncillo simple syrup keeps well in an airtight jar with a lid for at least one month.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve this delicious syrup over your favorite ice cream, alongside freshly made buñuelos, over French toast or pancakes, or in coffee to infuse cafe de olla flavors!
