Nothing says backyard barbeque like homemade ribs, mac and cheese and a big jarra of my Watermelon Agua Fresca — and that’s exactly what’s on the menu for my sister Ivana’s 25th birthday bash tonight.

Star Fruit-Vanilla Agua Fresca | Agua Fresca de Carambola con Vainilla

Ingredients:
3 large star fruits
5 cups water
1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
¼ cup sugar (or to taste)
Turbinado sugar to rim glass (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Slice star fruit into ¼-inch pieces. Set aside a few slices for garnish.
  2. Blend star fruit with water, vanilla, and sugar on high for 60 seconds.
  3. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into large pitcher. You may need to agitate the mixture to let the juice through, avoid pushing through the pulp to keep juice light in consistency. Discard pulp.
  4. Chill and serve over ice. Garnish with sliced star fruit.

Passion Fruit Iced Tea | Té de Maracuyá (Fruta de la Passión)

by Lola Ingredients: 8 cups freshly brewed tea 5 passion fruits ½ cup sugar (or to taste) Preparation: Remove pulp from 5 passion fruits and add to blender along with tea (once it has cooled) and sugar. Blend on high setting for 30 seconds. Strain

Kiwi Agua Fresca | Agua Fresca de Kiwi

Ingredients: 5 kiwis peeled 6 cups water ½ cup sugar (or to taste) Preparation: Blend kiwis, 3 cups water, and sugar on medium setting for 60 seconds. Strain using fine-mesh sieve into large pitcher. Stir in remaining 3 cups water. Chill and serve over ice.
