DESCRIPTION

Join us for a day of food, flowers, friendship, and amor in this cross-border Valentine’s Day virtual cooking class with Lola Dweck of Lola’s Cocina and Master Mexican Baker Eliceo Lara. Come one, come all – join us with your amor, amigxs, or alone and learn how to transform edible hibiscus flowers into sweet and savory recipes you can enjoy all year long.

IN THIS TWO-HOUR WORKSHOP, PARTICIPANTS WILL:

  • Cook a full meal using hibiscus flowers
  • Our menu will include tostadas with chipotle-infused black beans, savory hibiscus flowers + carrot and jicama medley, golden salsa, and all the fixings, hibiscus cocktails and mocktails, and a sweet hibiscus mousse with a crispy streusel topping for dessert
  • Learn useful tips and tricks and how-to information in a live hands-on cooking demonstration
  • Participate in opportunities to win fun prizes curated by Lola and Eliceo, winner must be present

MORE DETAILS

  • Upon registration, participants will receive the full list of ingredients and kitchen tools we will use in class, please measure out and prepare ingredients in advance!
  • Students will receive a Zoom within 24 hours of class
  • The goal of this virtual workshop is to create an interactive environment where students cook along with the instructors or watch the class and prepare their favorite recipes afterwards, at a time that is convenient for them
  • Students joining live will be able to ask and address individual questions during the class
  • Paid participants will receive the video recording even if they are not able to attend the live class
  • Following the class, participants will receive a link to a private Facebook group where they will be able to access the video recording for future reference

CLICK HERE to register. In Mexico the holidays are greeted with a tradition your family and friends are sure to love. Everyone, young and old alike, gathers in the kitchen to enjoy each other’s company and assemble dozens of tamales. In this class we’ll show you everything you need to make these festive treats part of your own holiday repertoire, from the masa (dough) and fillings to wrapping techniques and tasty salsa. We’ll have two fillings prepared, one braised meat and one vegetarian, and then as a class you’ll prepare your masa. Then we’ll gather together to assemble tamales, wrapping them in corn husks for steaming. While your tamales are cooking, you and your classmates will prepare salsa and agua fresca, then you’ll sit down as a group to enjoy the fruits of your labor. By the end of the class, you will:

  • Know how to prepare flavorful tamal dough
  • Understand which types of fillings work well, and how you can improvise to create your own
  • Learn to fill, wrap, steam, and freeze tamales for later use

Cancellation Policy While we understand that sometimes things come up that may prevent you from attending a cooking class, these classes take time to prepare on our part.

  • Cancellations 14 days or more of your scheduled class, you will a receive 50% refund and the remaining credit can be used toward a future cooking class within one year
  • Cancellations within 14 days of your scheduled class, there are no refunds but you may reschedule and attend a future cooking class within one year
  • If Lola’s Cocina cancels a cooking class, a full refund will be provided or you can reschedule and attend a future cooking class
